UCEED 2024 will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay under the guidance of the UCEED-CEED Implementation Committee 2024 (henceforth referred to as the UCI Committee).

UCEED 2024 is open to all nationals (Indian/Foreign). Candidates seeking admission to the Bachelor’s Degree programme in Design (BDes) at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB), Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD), Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH), Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) and Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing Jabalpur (IIITDMJ), must appear for UCEED 2024.

Pahal Design Bangalore is offering weekdays and weekends batch. Students can join Classroom Coaching and Online Coaching.

Syllabus

UCEED 2024 will have two parts.

Part-A will have questions from the following topics:

  • Visualization and spatial reasoning: Ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.
  • Practical and scientific knowledge: Know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects.
  • Observation and design sensitivity: The capacity to detect concealed properties in daily life and think critically about them. Attention to detail, classification, analysis, inference and prediction.
  • Environment and society: General awareness of environmental, social and cultural connections with design.
  • Analytical and logical reasoning: Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Language: Proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English.
  • Creativity: Grasp of verbal and non-verbal analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols.

Part-B will have questions on the following topics:

  • Drawing: Ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective and shading.
  • Design aptitude: Capability to practically and appropriately respond to problems/situations with ingenuity and empathy.

UCEED 2024 will be held only in the following 27 cities in India:

Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Delhi, Ernakulam, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Mumbai, Mysuru, Nagpur, Noida, Panaji, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, and Visakhapatnam.

Question Paper Structure for UCEED 2024

  • There will be ONE question paper of total THREE hours duration.
  • The question paper will be in English only.
  • The question paper will carry a total of 300 marks.
  • The question paper will consist of two parts: Part-A and Part-B. It is compulsory to attempt questions from both the parts.
  • Utmost care is taken to prepare an error free question paper. However, if an error is detected in the question paper, the UCI Committee shall take an appropriate decision after the examination, which shall be final.

Details of the two parts of the question paper are given below:

Part-A (Total marks: 200; Maximum time: 2 hours)

  • This part will be administered through a computer-based test.
  • This part will consist of three sections.

Section 1:NAT (Numerical Answer Type): 14 questions (4 marks each; no negative marks).
For these questions, the answer is a number that needs to be entered using a virtual keyboard on the computer screen. No choices will be shown for these questions.

Section 2: MSQ (Multiple Select Question): 15 questions.
Each MSQ may have one or more than one correct choice(s) out of the four given. The following is the marking scheme:

Full Marks: + 4

    • If only (all) the correct option(s) is(are) chosen and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.

Partial Marks: + 3

    • If all the four options are correct but ONLY three options are chosen and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.

Partial Marks: + 2

    • If three or more options are correct but ONLY two options are chosen, both of which are correct and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.

Partial Marks: + 1

    • If two or more options are correct but ONLY one option is chosen and it is a correct option and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen

Zero Marks: 0

    • If none of the options is chosen (i.e., the question is unanswered).

Negative Marks: -1

    • In all other cases.

Section 3: MCQ (Multiple Choice Question): 28 questions (3 marks each for the correct answer; 0.71 negative marks for incorrect answers). Each MCQ will have four choices, out of which only one is the correct answer..

Part-B (Total marks: 100; Maximum time: 1 hour)

  • Part-B consists of TWO questions to test the candidates’ drawing skills and design aptitude. This will require subjective evaluation. The questions in Part-B will be displayed on the computer screen, and the answer must be written/drawn in the answer book provided by the invigilator. In the case of PwD candidates availing the use of a scribe, assistance in attempting Part-B is not permitted, as the question is aimed at evaluating their drawing skill.
  • Part-B answer booklets will be collected at the end of the examination.
  • Part-B question is mandatory.
  • The entire paper (Part-A and Part-B) must be finished within the stipulated time for each part.

Duties

Graphic designers typically do the following:

Graphic design is important to market and sell products, and it is a critical component of brochures and logos. Therefore, graphic designers often work closely with people in advertising and promotions, public relations, and marketing.

Frequently, designers specialize in a particular category or type of client. For example, some designers create the graphics used on product packaging, and others may work on the visual designs used on book jackets.

Graphic designers need to keep up to date with software and computer technologies in order to remain competitive.

Some individuals with a background in graphic design become postsecondary teachers and teach in design schools, colleges, and universities.

Education for Graphic Designers
A bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field is usually required. However, individuals with a bachelor’s degree in another field may pursue technical training in graphic design to meet most hiring qualifications.

The National Association of Schools of Art and Design accredits about 350 postsecondary colleges, universities, and independent institutes with programs in art and design. Most programs include courses in studio art, principles of design, computerized design, commercial graphics production, printing techniques, and website design. In addition, students should consider courses in writing, marketing, and business, all of which are useful in helping designers work effectively on project teams.

High school students interested in graphic design should take basic art and design courses in high school, if the courses are available. Many bachelor’s degree programs require students to complete a year of basic art and design courses before being admitted to a formal degree program. Some schools require applicants to submit sketches and other examples of their artistic ability.

Many programs provide students with the opportunity to build a professional portfolio of their designs. For many artists, including graphic designers, developing a portfolio—a collection of completed works that demonstrates their styles and abilities—is essential because employers rely heavily on a designer’s portfolio in deciding whether to hire the individual.

Graphic designers must keep up with new and updated computer graphics and design software, either on their own or through formal software training programs. Professional associations that specialize in graphic design, such as AIGA, offer courses intended to keep the skills of their members up to date.

Other Experience for Graphic Designers
Graphic designers often gain their initial experience through internships. Internships provide aspiring graphic designers an opportunity to work with designers and to experience the design process from concept to completion, in some cases while completing a design program.

Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations for Graphic Designers
Certification programs are generally available through software product vendors. Certification in graphic design software can demonstrate a level of competence and may provide a jobseeker with a competitive advantage.

Advancement for Graphic Designers
Experienced graphic designers may advance to chief designer, art director, or other supervisory positions.

Important Qualities for Graphic Designers
Analytical skills. Graphic designers must be able to look at their work from the point of view of their consumers and examine how the designs they develop will be perceived by consumers to ensure they convey the client’s desired message.

Artistic ability. Graphic designers must be able to create designs that are artistically interesting and appealing to clients and consumers. They produce rough illustrations of design ideas, either by hand sketching or by using computer programs.

Communication skills. Graphic designers must communicate with clients, customers, and other designers to ensure that their designs accurately reflect the desired message and effectively express information.

Computer skills. Most graphic designers use specialized graphic design software to prepare their designs.

Creativity. Graphic designers must be able to think of new approaches to communicating ideas to consumers. They develop unique designs that convey a certain message on behalf of their clients.

Time-management skills. Graphic designers often work on multiple projects at the same time, each with a different deadline.

Art Directors

Art directors are responsible for the visual style and images in magazines, newspapers, product packaging, and movie and television productions. They create the overall design of a project and direct others who develop artwork and layouts.

Craft and Fine Artists

Craft and fine artists use a variety of materials and techniques to create art for sale and exhibition. Craft artists create handmade objects, such as pottery, glassware, textiles, and other objects that are designed to be functional. Fine artists, including painters, sculptors, and illustrators, create original works of art for their aesthetic value, rather than for a functional one.

Desktop Publishers

Desktop publishers use computer software to design page layouts for newspapers, books, brochures, and other items that are printed or published online.

Drafters

Drafters use software to convert the designs of engineers and architects into technical drawings. Most workers specialize in architectural, civil, electrical, or mechanical drafting and use technical drawings to help design everything from microchips to skyscrapers.

Industrial Designers

Industrial designers develop the concepts for manufactured products, such as cars, home appliances, and toys. They combine art, business, and engineering to make products that people use every day. Industrial designers consider the function, aesthetics, production costs, and usability of products when developing new product concepts.

Multimedia Artists and Animators

Multimedia artists and animators create animation and visual effects for television, movies, video games, and other forms of media.

Technical Writers

Technical writers, also called technical communicators, prepare instruction manuals, how-to guides, journal articles, and other supporting documents to communicate complex and technical information more easily. They also develop, gather, and disseminate technical information through an organization’s communications channels.

Web Developers

Web developers design and create websites. They are responsible for the look of the site. They are also responsible for the site’s technical aspects, such as its performance and capacity, which are measures of a website’s speed and how much traffic the site can handle. In addition, web developers may create content for the site.

National Institute of Design (NID) at Ahmedabad and at its Bengaluru and Gandhinagar Extension campuses is an ‘Institute of National Importance’ as per the NID Act 2014 as well as an autonomous Institute under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. As per the NID Act 2014, the Institute is a statutory authority empowered to award its own degrees— presently offering Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) of four-year duration, Masters of Design (M.Des.) of two-and-a-half year duration and PhD in Design. The Institute is also, a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Madhya Pradesh & NID Assam are independent autonomous institutes under the DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India and offer full time Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) of four-year duration.

NID DAT 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who want to apply for BDes or GDPD course at NID meet the eligibility criteria if they have cleared or are appearing for their higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examination from any stream (from any recognised board such as CBSE IB, ICSE or their equivalent in the year 2019-2020 can apply for the exam.

On the other hand, candidates are eligible to apply for MDes course if they have completed their bachelor’s degree from a recognised college/ university. Apart from this, aspirants applying for NID admission in MDes course should not be more than 30 years of age as on June 30, 2020.

NID Admission Process 2020

As part of NID admission process, candidates need to first fill their application form. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for this design entrance exam are then eligible to appear for NID DAT Prelims. Aspirants who clear the first stage of NID admissions then need to appear for NID DAT Mains. Finally, candidates who clear this admission round as well are offered admission in the course/ college of their choice.

NID admissions 2020 is a two tier process. Thus, for NID admissions candidates need to appear for NID DAT (Prelims) and NID DAT (Mains). The objective of conducting both these tests is to assess knowledge, skills as well as behavioural abilities of candidates.

Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) The four-year-long Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) is offered at NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Madhya Pradesh & NID Assam in the following areas of specialisation:

National Institute of Design (NID) at Ahmedabad and at its Bengaluru and Gandhinagar Extension campuses is an ‘Institute of National Importance’ as per the NID Act 2014 as well as an autonomous Institute under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. As per the NID Act 2014, the Institute is a statutory authority empowered to award its own degrees— presently offering Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) of four-year duration, Masters of Design (M.Des.) of two-and-a-half year duration and PhD in Design. The Institute is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Madhya Pradesh & NID Assam are independent autonomous institutes under the DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India and offer full time Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) of four-year duration.

Admission to all the programmes at NID is on the basis of the candidates’ performance in the two-stages of Design Aptitude Test. The objective of these exams is to assess the knowledge, skills and behavioural abilities of candidates.

Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims

Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims will be conducted at various test centres across India (Refer Section 7.3 of this document). Candidates should note that appearing for the DAT Prelims or being shortlisted for second stage of admission process does NOT guarantee automatic entitlement to admission.

Stage 2: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains

Candidates shortlisted after the DAT Prelims will be invited to appear for the Stage 2 DAT Main exam at Ahmedabad or at all campuses of NID viz Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Madhya Pradesh. Exact details of the Test Centre will be mentioned in the DAT Mains Admit Card.

Tips for Write Up in NIFT Situation Test

1. Doodles your concept first.
2. Rough sketch your idea on the write up paper by using the materials given in the test packet by NIFT.
3. Write the Keywords which come in your mind while doodling your 3D model.
4. Think during your preparation a nice and creative and easy memorable TOPIC/TITTLE for your 3D model. TOPIC must be not cross 3 to 4 words.
5. Don’t use your Running Handwriting in the write up. It should be in neat and Clean Handwriting so it can be easily readable for the invigilator.
6. Topic should be in CAPITAL LETTER AND IT SHOUD BE BOLD AND UNDERLINE.
7. After writing your title, try to give one EMOTIONAL THOUGHT to your write up from your experience which you learn during your study and from your daily life. It can be in one line or two lines.
8. Put your concern towards awareness by your 3D models.
9. Try to target specially youth/kids for your 3D model. Because they are the most powerful target to change the world.
10. Try to show the interest why you chosen the particular topic from the given 3 topics.
11. Write all the concern for your topic POINT WISE.

A. Why you picked up particular materials for your 3D model design.
B. How they aesthetically approaching to your 3D model.
C. The SHAPE you are using in the model what they locate.
D. The COLOUR Paper which you picked for your 3D model how they are giving the dynamics to your 3D model.
E. The Texture Paper or other different materials which you used in your 3D model how they aesthetically approaching your 3D model.
