How do we do it?
This is achieved by structured delivery of guidance not only in terms of building core design competency in students but also by interweaving structured courses in soft and leadership skills, personal growth and career preparedness, establishing three main pillars in our academic programs, that makes a Bachelor of Design program unlike any in the country:
3 Core Layers of Academics at the CMRU School of Design
Core 1 – Design Core Curriculum
CMR School of Design is dedicated to creating opportunities for students to connect with the world around them glocally. The main conceptual drive for all design programs is the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), in order to drive a qualitative ethical change in the lives of human beings on Earth and address challenges across our existence via design.
While gaining core competency in relevant knowledge and skills required to be a successful designer of today and tomorrow, students are guided to consider UNSDGs in their projects.
Core Layer 2 – Common Core Curriculum
Common Core Curriculum aims to prepare all the students for a future they do not know, jobs of tomorrow and all of life’s challenges that lay before them. For designers of today and tomorrow, Engagement, Empathy, and Confidence in Self are crucial.
Interlaced with the Design Core Curriculum, the Common Core Curriculum (CCC) courses are offered to all the students irrespective of the academic program that they pursue.
These courses are designed on the foundations of the following 3 main aspects:
- Preparing for success– Building successful career pathways, including entrepreneurship, higher education, research, and job opportunities
- Contributing to society– Empowering socially conscious, empathetic, and responsible future leaders
- Knowing self and community- Understanding the importance of inquiry at the individual, national and global levels, with cultural awareness and ethics
Core Layer 3 – LEAP Curriculum
(Learning, Engagement, and Advancement Programs) (LEAP Record)
LEAP Curriculum focuses on learning and development activities for students outside the classroom
CMR University, true to its motto of nurturing creative thinkers to drive positive global change lays significant emphasis on Co-Curricular as well as Extra-Curricular Activities. The University has set up a dedicated Office of Student Affairs (OSA) that offers Learning, and Development activities for students at CMR University, by establishing student-centric learning environments, co-curricular activities, diverse opportunities for community building, and leadership experiences to understand themselves and navigate the world around. The focus is on co-curricular activities, personal growth, and development of students, and every student chooses to participate in a club as per his/her interests and passions.
At CMRU School of Design the LEAP activities of the students are a part of their semester records, which is beneficial to placements and further studies.

STUDENT ACCOMMODATION
At CMR University, we prefer calling our hostels “Student Quarters” or “Student Accommodations”. These play a vital role in the academic cycle of a student. Hence, our student quarters are aesthetically designed to suit students’ needs for appropriate accommodation and place of study during their academic journey with us. The student quarters are designed to ensure proper lighting and ventilation throughout the year, whilst being spacious.
The student quarters, separate for both boys and girls students, are managed by an exclusive Campus House. Each hostel has single rooms and rooms with sharing options to accommodate different budgets, and its own Hostel Mess, providing all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) to students staying at the Campus.
