Pahal Design is affiliated with Rajkumari Indira Singh Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, a Government University dedicated to education in music, dance and fine arts. The university communication grants provisional recognition to Pahal Design, Delhi, as an examination centre for the two-year Art Appreciation course in Painting for the 2026–27 to 2027–28 academic period.
Designed for students who want to build a strong foundation in drawing, painting, composition and visual arts, this two-year programme combines art theory with extensive practical studio learning.

What Will You Learn?
The curriculum provides students with exposure to both the theoretical history of art and practical studio-based learning.
First Year – Building the Foundation
The first year introduces students to the History of Indian Painting, including the Six Limbs of Indian Painting and traditions such as Ajanta, Jain, Mughal, Rajasthani, Pahari and Bengal School painting. Students also study prominent Indian artists including Raja Ravi Varma, Abanindranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Amrita Sher-Gil and others.
Drawing
Students practise drawing from:
- Cubes, cones and cylindrical objects
- Groups of objects
- Antique head studies
- Natural forms
- Line, tone and shade
The prescribed media include pencil, charcoal and crayon.
2D Design
Students explore two-dimensional space and fundamental elements of visual expression. The syllabus develops awareness of point, line, shape, volume, texture, light and colour, along with the relationship between space and form.
Study from Old Masters
Students also study and create works inspired by important Indian painting traditions including:
Ajanta | Mughal | Rajasthani | Pahari | Bengal School
Media include watercolour, poster colour, tempera and acrylic.
Second Year – Developing Artistic Expression
The second year takes students into more advanced areas of drawing, painting and composition.
Fundamentals of Art & Project
Students explore essential elements of painting such as:
Line | Form | Tone | Texture | Space | Colour
They also learn principles of composition including:
Proportion | Balance | Dominance | Harmony | Rhythm | Unity | Perspective
The curriculum introduces drawing and painting equipment, materials and techniques involving pencils, charcoal, brushes, paper, canvas, oil painting and acrylic painting.
Advanced Drawing & Nature Study
Students study natural forms such as flowers, plants, shells, earthen pots, insects, minerals and other subjects to understand structure and visual observation.
The second-year drawing syllabus also incorporates human figure drawing, still life and antique head studies using different media and lighting conditions.
Creative Composition
Students work on both:
Figurative Composition
Non-Figurative Composition
Students can explore media including oil colour, acrylic colour, watercolour, dry pastel, oil pastel and mixed media.
Exhibition & Viva
The programme culminates with Exhibition and Viva, giving students an opportunity to present their work and demonstrate the artistic understanding developed during the course.
