    ELIGIBILITY

    Q. Is the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) score considered for the NID entrance test? 

    A. No, the NATA score is not considered for the NID entrance test. All applicants will have to undergo NID’s Design Aptitude Test (DAT). 

    Q. Does NID consider IGCSE-Grade-12 as a valid pre-requisite for B.Des./GDPD Programme?

    Q. Is a high school diploma by GED accepted for admission of Bachelor of Design course?

    A. Please refer to eligibility criteria mentioned in the B.Des./GDPD Admissions Handbook 2020-21 available online at http://admissions.nid.edu. 

    Q. I am doing a 3-year Diploma course after 10th. Am I eligible for the UG course?

    A. Please refer to eligibility criteria mentioned in the B.Des./GDPD Admissions Handbook 2020-21 available online at http://admissions.nid.edu. 

    Q. If the applicant is enrolled with the NIOS (National Institute of Open School) for 10+2 schooling, are they eligible to apply to NID?

    A. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects, meets the eligibility criteria as mentioned in the B.Des./GDPD Admissions Handbook 2020-21 available online at http://admissions.nid.edu. 

    Q. What is the procedure of admissions at NID?

    A. The process of admission to NID for M.Des., B.Des. and GDPD programmes consists of two stages. Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims and Stage 2: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains 

    Q. What is the entry requirement for M.Des. courses?

    A. There are 19 different specializations under Master of Design (M.Des.) at three campuses of NID. For the specialization you are interested in, please refer to eligibility criteria mentioned in M. Des Admissions Handbook 2020-21 available online at http://admissions.nid.edu.

    APPLICATION RELATED

    Q. How can I apply and where will I find the application form?

    A. You can apply online only, at http://admissions.nid.edu. Please refer to “How to Apply” section of Admissions Handbook 2020-21 (B.Des., M.Des & PHD) available online at http://admissions.nid.edu. 

    Q. How will I get the Admit Card for my exams?

    A. The Admit Card will be available online only, at http://admissions.nid.edu for DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. 

    Q. What documents do I need to submit during the online application process?

    A. Please refer to the documents to be uploaded in “How to Apply” section of the Admissions Handbook 2020-21 (B.Des., M.Des. & PHD) available online at http://admissions.nid.edu. 

    Q. How and where do I submit the application form?

    A. Application form must be filled in online only, at http://admissions.nid.edu. You can pay the fees online through credit card/debit card or by mailing us a demand draft. In either cases, remember to take a print of your completed application form to keep for future reference. Candidates paying fees by Demand Draft are required to send a printed copy of their application form along with the Demand Draft (via Speed Post/Courier) to the address below:

    Q. How should I complete the online application form?

    A. The online application form has clear instructions wherever required, to guide applicants during the process. 

    Q. What is the website address for submitting an online application?

    Q. Should I send photocopies of my certificates and awards?

    Q. When and how will I receive intimation of selection and admission decision?

    A. All information will be available online only, on the official NID Admissions site at http://admissions.nid.edu. Please refer to “Important Dates” section of the Admissions Handbook 2020-21 (B.Des., M.Des & PHD) and also visit the admissions website for regular updates. 

    Q. Are interviews for M.Des. conducted on campus?

    A. Please refer to the M.Des. Admissions Handbook 2020-21 available on the website http://admissions.nid.edu. 

    DESIGN APTITUDE TEST

    Q. What is the DAT for?

    A. DAT stands for Design Aptitute Test. The objective of the admission process is to seek evidence of the perception, attitude, aptitude, achievement and motivation essential in a potential design student. There are 2 stages– Stage 1: DAT Prelims and Stage 2: DAT Mains. 

    Q. Which are the test centres?

    A. Please refer to the Admissions Handbook 2020-21 (B.Des., M.Des. & PHD) available online at http://admissions.nid.edu. 

    Q. What is the DAT Mains? How important is it?

    A. Based on the scores obtained in DAT Prelims (Stage 1), candidates will be shortlisted and called for the DAT Mains (Stage 2). The final merit list will be generated, based on the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate in each stage of the admissions process. 

    Q. Can we choose an exam centre?

    A. Candidates may select a test centre of their choice at the time of submitting their application online for DAT Prelims. However, NID reserves the right to add/remove any of these centres and allot a test centre that may not be of the candidate’s choice. 

    Q. Where will I get my Admit Card from?

    A. The Admit Card will be available only on the official Admissions website of NID: http://admissions.nid.edu. It will be candidates’ responsibility to download and print his/her Admit Card.

    A. Yes. 

    Q. Is there any waiver for the DAT Prelim?

    A. No, there is no waiver for the DAT Prelim. 

    Q. What if I am staying abroad and can’t appear for the DAT Prelim?

    A. It is mandatory for all applicants, including those staying abroad, to appear for the DAT. 

    Q. If I don’t get admission this year, can I apply next year or later?

    A. Yes, candidates are allowed to appear for NID’s entrance exam for an unlimited number of attempts provided the eligibility criteria are fulfilled. 

    Q. Is there any other test which can work as a substitute for DAT Prelim?

    A. There is no other test that works as a substitute for DAT Prelim for getting into NID.

    FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS

    Q. Do any banks have a tie-up with NID for financial aid to provide education loans?

    A. NID does not have a tie-up with any Banks. Candidates will have to approach banks directly, for any kind of financial aid/educational loans. 

    Q. Does NID provide any scholarship to its students for education?

    A. NID provides a limited number of scholarships to financially deserving candidates. Further information on scholarships can be obtained after successful admission to NID. 

    Q. Is an international student eligible to apply for financial aid from India?

    A. Foreign students will have to seek financial aid from their country of residence/domicile.

    APPLICATION FEES

    Q. What are the application fees at NID?

    A. The application fees are different for applicants in general and reserved categories for Indian nationals and those under Overseas Categories. Please refer to section 6 of the NID Admissions 2020-21 Handbook available on the website http://admissions.nid.edu

    ACCOMODATION

    Q. Does NID Ahmedabad Campus provide hostel facilities?

    A. Yes, but it differs for undergraduate and postgraduate students, from campus to campus, and for male and female students. 

    Q. Will students be assisted with out-of-campus accommodation?

    A. NID does not assist students with seeking any out-of-campus accommodation. Students are required to arrange their accommodation outside of campus on their own. 

    Q. Are accommodation arrangements different for international students?

    A. Accommodation arrangements provided by NID do not differ according to students’ nationality.

    VISA

    Q. Will an Indian citizen who studied in Riyadh from class 9 to 12, be considered an overseas/foreign student?

    A. Foreign nationals (applicants holding citizenship of any country other than Republic of India) are required to apply under the Overseas category. 

    Q. When applying from abroad, which type of visa is required to attend the DAT Prelim?

    A. You will need a tourist visa. However, please check with the Indian Embassy in your domicile country for specific visa requirement for entry to India. 

    Q. If one has a US passport and an Indian PIO card and has done their schooling from India, is he/she eligible to apply as an Overseas Candidate, Indian candidate or both?

    A. If you hold a passport of any country other than India, you are eligible to apply only under the Overseas category. 

    Q. I have dual citizenship? How does that work in my favor?

    A. Foreign nationals (applicants holding citizenship of any country other than Republic of India) are eligible to apply only under the Overseas category. 

    Q. If selected as an overseas applicant, what kind of visa will I need to study at NID?

    A. A valid student visa for the duration of course at NID will have to be obtained by the candidate before the commencement of their programme.

    Q. Is any stipend paid to the M.Des. students?

    A. NID does not pay any stipend to its students enrolled. 

    Q. Is any stipend paid to the PHD students?

    A. Please refer to the PHD Admissions Handbook 2020-21. 

    Q. When does the academic year begin?

    A. The academic session of NID commences in the month of June. The exact date for the coming academic year can be found on NID’s website. 

    Q. Do I get an acknowledgement on submission of my application?

    A. Yes, you will receive an acknowledgement by email on the email id provided at the time of sign up. 

    Q. Can I visit the campus during or before the application process?

    A. Yes. Campus visits are allowed to all from Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm (except public holidays). 

    Q. Can I withdraw my application after submission? Would the application fee refunded?

    A. You cannot withdraw your application once it has been submitted. The Application fee is neither refundable nor transferable. 

    Q. I have heard of the student exchange programme NID offers, can I get more information?

    A. Please visit NID’s website www.nid.edu. 

    Q. Where can I find more information on NID?

    A. At NID’s website www.nid.edu, facebook, twitter. 

    Q. Can I join NID halfway through the course?

    A. No. 

    Q. Do recommendation letters help in any way?

    A. Recommendation letters are neither required nor considered in support of a candidate’s application. 

    Q. Is there a special provision of medical facilities by NID for international students?

    A. No. Special or different medical facilities are not provided to international students by NID. 

    Q. Do I need to take an English proficiency test for NID?

    A. Candidates are not required to take any English language proficiency test. However the medium of instruction at NID is English. The DAT Prelims and DAT Mains are conducted in English language only. 

    Q. Will I need to have my school documents translated if they are completed in my native language?

    A. Yes. The applicant has to get the translated copy of necessary documents.

    DISCIPLINE RELATED

    Q. Does NID have a four-year B.Des. course in Interior Design?

    A. NID offers a 4 year undergraduate programme in Furniture & Interior Design only. A separate course on Interior Design is not offered. 

    Q. Does the Ceramic & Glass discipline teach pottery?

    A. Yes. Learning about pottery is part of the Ceramic & Glass discipline. 

    Q. Which courses are offered at different campus?

    A. Please refer to sections 3 of the Admissions Handbook 2020-21 (B.Des., M.Des. & PHD) on www.admission.nid.edu 

    Q. What are the age criteria for applying for M.Des.?

    A. Please refer to Section 4 of the M.Des. Admissions Handbook 2020-21. 

    Q. Are there any special summer courses offered at NID?

    A. Yes, summer workshops are conducted at NID. For more details please visit www.nid.edu. 

    Q. Which courses are offered at the Gandhinagar campus?

    A. Please refer to Section 3 of the M.Des. Admissions Handbook 2020-21 

    Q. Is the foundation programme for B.Des. mandatory?

    A. Successful candidates admitted to NID’s B.Des. programme will have to undergo a mandatory foundation programme of one (1) year duration. Allotment of a discipline at the end of the foundation programme is based solely on the student’s performance and on the number of seats available in the desired discipline. 

    Q. What is the medium of instruction at NID?

    A. English only. 

    Q. Can I apply for more than one discipline in M.Des. Programme?

    A. Yes. You can apply for admission to 2 disciplines in the M.Des programme, but not more than 2.

    Q. How many seats are reserved for candidates from GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST or PwD categories?
