Design is not just about the way things look, it is also about the way they work. India is poised for growth in almost all the fields and it is increasingly expected to compete globally in the delivery of goods and services as per international standards. Design is being recognized as the strategic ingredient in making India competitive. Design Education is, therefore, an imperative feature for the country. Responding to this need through education, training and research are World University of Design (WUD) – The Universe of Creative Education located at Rajiv Gandhi Education City – a hub of educational institutions of eminence in India.
As India’s first university dedicated to education in the creative domain, WUD underlines the movement of design from being purely vocation-oriented to becoming academic-oriented; and from certificate & diploma stage to degree, postgraduate degrees, research, and doctoral programs. World University of Design (WUD), offers design education through a unique teaching pedagogy, advanced interdisciplinary research, and international collaborations in the areas of Architecture, Design, Interior, Communication, Fashion, Fine Arts, Management, and many other design-related courses.
Academic leadership at WUD is provided by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a well-known personality in the field with over 20 years of experience in design education and formerly the Dean of NIFT i.e. the National Institute of Fashion Technology. The faculty comprises highly experienced professionals from premier art and design colleges of India.

DAT, AAT, and GAT will be conducted by the World University of Design. The purpose of this process is to evaluate the aptitude of the student towards creative education and guide them to select the right career path according to his/her inherent skill sets. Valid scores of NIFT, NID, CEED, and UCEED exams can be considered in lieu of DAT and those of CET, CAT, MAT, and XAT in lieu of GAT.

Admission procedure
Admission to Design, Fashion & Communication programs will be through a Design Aptitude Test (DAT); to Art programs through an Art Aptitude Test (AAT); and to Management programs through a General Aptitude Test (GAT), all followed by a personal interview. DAT, AAT, and GAT will be conducted by the World University of Design. Valid scores of NIFT, NEED and UCEED exams can be considered in lieu of DAT and those of CET, CAT, MAT, and XAT in lieu of GAT.
Admission to the Architecture program will be on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and the National Tests NATA/ JEE.

WUD takes pride in the quality of its faculty which comprises well-qualified professionals who have been educated and trained at prestigious institutes such as LCF -London, FIT – New York, De Montfort University UK, IIT, NID, NIFT, SPA, and Delhi College of Art among others. All faculty members are working professionals who keep a close touch with the industry.
FACILITIES
In keeping with the University’s vision, its 12+ acre lush campus houses state-of-the-art imaging systems & workshops, Apple iMAC based CAD rooms, animation studios, well-equipped Machine shops & Maker-rooms, Rapid prototyping, Printmaking, Patternmaking, Garment Construction, Dyeing & Printing & Ceramic studios; well-equipped library as well as a state of the art Materials museum; and an Art gallery.
GLOBAL EXPERIENCE
WUD is the youngest Indian university to be awarded an ERASMUS+ programme as a lead, working with a consortium of international partner universities including Brunel University, UK; Politecnico di Milano, Italy; and University of Agean, Greece.
WUD has international exchange agreements with leading education institutions like Vancouver Film School & Emily Carr University (Canada); University of Huddersfield & Oxford Brookes University (UK); ENSAIT and Academie Charpentier (France); and College of Creative Studies, Michigan (USA). In 2019, ten students went on a semester exchange with these universities.
WUD is also a member of Cumulus, the international body of design institutions. WUD hosts the prestigious Global Goals Jam Delhi every year in association with UNDP and MediaLab Amsterdam. It also runs the Delhi NCR chapter of Speculative Futures. WUD is a member of an international consortium “Design across Cultures” based out of the Netherlands and has partners from the USA, Brazil, Germany, Italy, and Korea, etc. WUD organizes a biannual International Conference on ‘Functional Textiles & Clothing’ in association with IIT Delhi. The first conference held in 2018 hosted over 200 scholars from over 30 countries. The next conference is in 2020.

WUD considers international exposure as a quintessential part of design education and intends to provide abundant opportunities to its students to explore and experience the various nuances of this facet of education. Such exposure enhances a students’ personality and broadens the vision. WUD is signing MoUs with leading educational institutions across the globe to facilitate this. The MOUs already signed are with – IAAD the Italian University of Design, UWS University of West Scotland, and VFS the Vancouver Film School. WUD organized the prestigious Global Goals Jam Delhi 2017 in association with UNDP and MediaLab Amsterdam at its campus. WUD is organising an International Conference on ‘Functional Textiles & Clothing’ in February 2018 in association with IIT Delhi.
Learning Resources
WUD maintains a library amply equipped with books, journals, subscribed magazines from all disciplines. It’s the Workshops however where ideas take a tangible form. With one of its prime focuses is “learning by doing”, WUD maintains high-tech labs & workshops like the model-making workshop, Apple iMAC based CAD rooms, fully functional Machine shop, Patternmaking, Garment construction & Sewing workshop, etc. WUD also has an art gallery on campus for displaying not only the work of its own students but also holding curated art shows.
Industry Connects & Placements
WUD faculty maintains powerful alliances with employers and industry partners that enable students to leverage opportunities to showcase their acquired skills. Multiple MoUs have been signed with some of the best studios in the country, opening possibilities for placements, industry projects, and internships. WUD offers assured placement and entrepreneurial support through partner companies, industry networks & incubation centers. The current fashion batch for example got internships with brands like Reliance Retail, Fabindia, Future Group, Maxx, Shahi exports, Namrata Joshipura, Pallavi Mohan, etc.
WUD Campus and Hostel Facilities
The modern, air-conditioned, wi-fi WUD campus is located in the fast developing Rajiv Gandhi Education City on NH1 in Delhi NCR along with colleges like IIT Delhi, NLU, Ashoka University, NIFTEM among other eminent institutions as its neighbor. It is spread over an area of 13 acres. WUD provides pick-up and drop facility from the nearest metro station.
WUD also offers spacious, air-conditioned, wi-fi semi-furnished hostel rooms with attached baths for girl students on-campus and to boys off-campus. There is a warden and visiting parents’ rooms and excellent mess facilities. A wide range of indoor and outdoor sporting opportunities is available to students at WUD. A Gymnasium equipped with free weights, cardio, stretching and resistance training equipment is also available. WUD has a 1000 capacity open-air theatre and several smaller venues to host and hold cultural performances.
Life at WUD
WUD acknowledges diversity in the origin of its members and the importance of cultural & social activities in improving the personality, enhancing communication skills, and building a positive, progressive global outlook. Many clubs like Film, Photography, Dance, Music, CSR, Sports and Dramatics, etc are active at the university. WUD annual fest, named CULT, attracts participation from over 40 colleges around the country. WUD Campus is also a hub of intellectual activities such as – A National Artists Camp on ‘Unexplored Spaces’ and exhibition at Arpana Art Gallery; A Seminar remembering Allen Joseph Stein – the famous architect at IHC; A Master Class on Design Thinking & Learning for School Principals; An annual Art Residency program; A workshop on cyber safety for women students & employees etc.
Campus is also a hub of intellectual activities. Some activities organised by WUD this year are:
