What is NID ?
The National Institute of Design (NID) is India’s premier autonomous public design university, often hailed as the “IIT of the design world,” established in 1961 following the landmark India Report by Charles and Ray Eames. To gain admission, candidates for the B.Des program must have passed or be appearing for their 12th-grade exams in any stream (Science, Commerce, or Arts) and generally be under 20 years of age, while M.Des applicants require a 4-year Bachelor’s degree or a 3-year degree with a 1-year diploma. NID offers diverse specializations across its campuses in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Bengaluru, and newer centers in Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Assam, providing approximately 425+ seats for B.Des and 350+ for M.Des. Bachelor of Design (B.Des)
The evaluation for B.Des candidates is split into two primary phases:
Stage 1: NID DAT (Prelims): A 3-hour, paper-based examination featuring both objective questions and subjective sketching exercises.
Stage 2: NID DAT (Mains): This stage focuses on a Studio Sensitivity Test and an In-Person Sensitivity Test. Candidates engage in time-bound hands-on tasks, including 3D modeling, drawing, audio-visual observation, sensory response tests, and group or individual interactions.
Note: Prelims results are used exclusively to shortlist candidates for the Mains. The Prelims score does not contribute to the final merit list.

NID Exam (M.Design)
The Design Aptitude Tests will be conducted in two stages:
Stage 1: NID DAT (Prelims) – Pen & Paper based Written Test
Stage 2: NID DAT (Mains) – Studio Test, Interview & Portfolio Review
- NID DAT Prelims (M.Des) – The exam will be divided into two sections: : Objective type questions and subjective type with sketching questions. There will be a single common test paper for the DAT Prelims exam for all the faculty streams.
- NID DAT Mains (M.Des) – The DAT Mains test includes Studio test, Interview and Portfolio Review at the NID campus. A faculty stream Specific Studio Test will be conducted for all disciplines under each faculty stream. Interviews will be conducted discipline wise.
Important Note:
- Only candidates who successfully clear the prelims will be called for the DAT Mains Exam.
- NID Prelims score is only for shortlisting the students for NID DAT Mains Exam and will not carry any further weightage in the final result.

NID Admit Card Information
Admit cards for the NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) will be available for download on the official NID admissions website: https://admissions.nid.edu. It is the responsibility of candidates to download and print their admit cards. No separate digital or hard copy will be sent by NID. The reporting time for the exam will be mentioned on the admit card. NID’s DAT Prelims and DAT Mains admit cards cannot be used by any person or institution without prior permission from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
Important Note
- NID DAT admit cards are only issued to candidates who have successfully completed and submitted their NID application form.
- Separate admit cards will be issued for the NID DAT Prelims and NID DAT Mains exams.
How to Download NID DAT Admit Card:
- Visit the NID website: Go to the official entrance exam website at https://admissions.nid.edu.
- Access the admit card link: Click on the tab or link for NID DAT admit card.
- Enter your details: Provide your registered Email ID, Date of Birth, and Roll Number/Application Form number.
- Download your admit card: View and download your NID admit card.
- Print the admit card: Take a clear printout of your NID entrance exam 2026 admit card.
Key Requirement:
- Carry the printed admit card to the test centre. Without a valid NID admit card, you will not be allowed to appear for either the NID DAT Prelims or Mains exam.
NID DAT 2026 Results: How to Access
The NID DAT 2026 Results will be released exclusively online. Candidates can view and download their scorecards via the official admissions portal.
