STUDIO TEST GUIDE
1. INTRODUCTION
NID Studio test is for those students who have qualified NID 1st Phase exam (B.Des/GDPD/ M.Des) which comprises of DAT Mains(Studio Test) with 70% weightage and DAT Prelims (Multiple Choice questions) with 30%weightage. This exam is held at NID, Ahmedabad campus for all the students across India. NID DAT Mains exam has a weightage of 70% and this phase is the important deciding factor as they select 3 times of the total number of students seats available for admission.
NID Studio Test includes Doodling concept, 3D Model making, Clay Modelling, Wire Moulding, Psychometric Test, Audio Visual Test, Interview and Portfolio round for M.Des/B.Des/GDPD. The NID Studio Test will be conducted (M.Des) for each discipline of specialization separately. The Studio Test will be conducted in English and is of 100 marks.

What is Doodling Concept
Doodles are simple drawings that can have concrete representational meaning or may just be ABSTRACT shapes. It’s a process of inspiration, going to create something meaningful, giving the direction to your idea and theme or we can say the foundation of our ideas on which we are going to build the final product or going to shape our ideas.
What is 3D Modeling Making
Through the 3D modeling, NID observes the students how they use the given materials such as wire, clay, papers, thermocouples, sticks, and other daily life materials or waste materials in popper manners for the given theme to the candidates. They give 30 to 45 minutes time for this and observe which candidates have made the 3D model creative and logical, balancing the given materials, is the 3D model reflects the given theme or not and very important what the idea used by the candidate use while making their 3D model.
What is Clay Modelling
Through the clay modelling they check the candidates how they use the given amount of the clay use in their clay model. sometimes they ask the student to make the model with proper detailing in their clay model. in the clay modelling they restrict the students not use any clay modelling tools like V TOOLS, U TOOLS, KINFE, CUTTER etc.
What is Wire Moulding
Through this NID tests that how students use the wire properties for their theme. How they balance and construct the given theme by using wires (G wires,Aluminium Wire, SS wire).
What is Thematic /Psychometric Test
Through these kind of test NID observe the candidates who have the power of observation, spontaneous presence of mind. For this NID give the students 1 to 10 minute. In this they check the balance of the objects also.They will show some picture of 5 second and ask

- What type of colour scheme used in the office?
What is Audio / Visual Test
Through these kind of test NID check that how the candidates observe the sound in their daily life and they show some audio or video and they ask some questions based on the audio or video.

What is Interview and Portfolio
This interview round is very important for the student. In this, they check the student how much he or she is interested in design by their original work portfolio in which candidates show their drawing, photography, computer design, creative writing, any 3d model photography, poster, texture, calligraphy, etc. Candidates must have the knowledge of all their works which they are presenting in the interview because sometimes they ask the candidates about their works. In the face-to-face interview conversation, candidates must dress well in the manner and represent themselves in a relaxed state of mind. Candidates should answer the question smartly, confidently, and very important honestly.

2. HOW TO CRACK NID STUDIO TEST
1.Observation is the key
One has to be observant and alert around themselves and keep on observing little things as well around them. This will increase the ability to visualize and will help you in applying it to the current situation given.
2. Creativity & Sensitivity
The Studio test checks how a student comes with out-of-the-box ideas in an impromptu situation. Students must think of new innovative ideas instead of the old common ones.
3. Speed matters
As the duration of the test is of three hours, one must focus on the speed in completing the series of tests followed by portfolio and interview as well which can come by practice.
4. Problem-solving abilities
The questions and tasks provided in the second stage aim to analyze how a student comes up with the most creative solutions to a problem. One must focus on the Identification and quality execution of the problem provided.
5. Smart material manipulation
The materials provided in the test must be utilized judiciously instead of using all the materials provided.
3. EXAM PATTERN OF NID STUDIO TEST
NID entrance exam comprises of three phases which include DAT Prelims and DAT Mains in the month of December and May respectively. Candidates are required to qualify for each phase of the exam to secure admission in NID. Students who qualify for the prelims exam which has 30% weightage will be eligible to appear in the NID DAT mains exam with having 70% weightage in the entrance exam. Candidates will be shortlisted for the next process of selection after the main exam.

Reservation of seats for Economically Weaker Section (EWS):
The general category belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (GEN-EWS) will be a reserved category in which the percentage of reservation is 10%. The benefit of reservation will be given only to those General category candidates who satisfy the conditiongivenintheOMNo.20013/01/2018-BC-IIdated17January2019issuedbythe Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Higher Education, Government of India.
ThebenefitofreservationunderGEN-EWScanbeavaileduponproductionofanIncome & Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority. The Income and Asset Certificate issued by any one of the following authorities in the prescribed format as available on the website http://admissions.nid.edu shall only be considered valid.

Reservation of seats for Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer):
ThecastementionedintheOtherBackwardClasses(NonCreamy)certificate must be listed in the Central list of OBCs available at: http://www.ncbc.nic.in/User_Panel/CentralListStateView.aspx
Candidates belonging to the Creamy Layer of OBC are not entitled to apply under the reserved category(OBC-NCL)andwillhavetosubmittheirapplicationunderGeneral (unreserved)category.
Candidates applying under the OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) category are required to produce(upload)avalidcertificateintheirnameinEnglish(issuedafter1April2019or later) from the relevant competent authorities of their respective State or Union Territory, certifying that they do not belong to the Creamy Layer along with the final application for.

8. RESULTS & ADMISSION
Results for DAT Prelims:
BasedonthescoresobtainedintheDATPrelims, separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category applied for by the candidate. Results for admission to NID for the Academic Year 2020-21 for the B.Des (including overseas candidates) and GDPD programs will be declared only on the official admissions website (http://admissions.nid.edu) as per the schedule announced in Section 2 of this document. The candidates’ scores will also be available for viewing atthistime.
Separateresultscorecards(digital or hardcopy)willNOTbeprovidedtothecandidates.
Incasethetotalmarksscoredbytwoormorecandidatesarethesame, the following
tie-break policy will be used for awarding ranks:
- Higher rank will be assigned to the candidate ewhohasobtainedhighermarksin Part B of the DAT -Prelims.
- Ifthisdoesnotbreakthetie,higherrankwillbeassignedtothecandidatewhohas obtained higher marks in Part A of the DAT -Prelims.
- If this still does not break the tie, then both the candidates will be assigned the same rank.
Rechecking of DAT Prelims -Exam:
- Whether all the answers have beenmarked.
- Whethertherehasbeenanymistakeinthetotallingofmarksforeachquestion inPartIIofanswerbookletandtransferringthemarkscorrectlyontothecover page of the answerbooklet.
- Nootherre-evaluationoftheanswerscriptorotherworkdonebythecandidateas a part of the examination will be carriedout.
- No candidate, person or organization shall be entitled to claim re-evaluation or disclosureorinspectionoftheanswerscriptsorcopiesofitandotherdocumentsas thesearetreatedasmostconfidentialbytheNIDAdmissionCell.
- Onrecheckingtheanswerbooklet,ifitisfoundthatthereisanerror,themarkswill be revisedaccordingly.
- Thecommunicationregardingtherevisionofmarks,ifany,shallbesenttothe candidate’s registered emailONLY.
- TheInstitutewillnotberesponsibleforanylossordamageoranyinconvenience causedtothecandidateconsequenttotherevisionofmarksandnoclaimsinthis regardshallbeentertained.Therevisedscoreafterrecheckingwillbeconsidered final.
- AnyrecheckingrequestssubmittedwithoutascannedcopyoftheAdmitCardsigned bytheinvigilatorwiththesealofthetestcentrewillnotbeprocessed.Rechecking
requestwillnotbeacceptedoveremailandhavetobesubmittedbythecandidate online only at the official website ofNID. - Thedetailsabout“Howtosubmittherecheckingrequest”willbeavailableonthe official website of admissions at a laterstage. ThefeesforrecheckingofDATPrelimspaperisRs.2000/-each.
Candidates Shortlisted for DATMains:
Based on the Merit list of DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will get to appear for DAT Mains. The number of candidates shortlisted will be no less than three times in each categoryappliedforbythecandidate.PleaserefertoSection3ofthishandbooktosee thetotalnumberofseatsavailable.Ifthetotalscoresoftwoormorecandidatesinthe DATPrelimsarethesameafterapplyingtie-breakpolicy,theywillbeassignedthesame rank.
Final Merit List:
ThefinalcommonmeritlistsfortheB.Des.andGDPDprogrammeswillbegenerated categorywise(Open,GEN-EWS,OBC-NCL,SC,ST,andPwD),basedonthesumtotalof theweightedscoresobtainedbythecandidate,viz.theDATPrelimsandDATMains. SeparatemeritlistwillbepreparedforOverseascandidatesforB.Des.programme.Common merit list will be generated based on the percentile score.ResultsforadmissiontoNIDfortheacademicyear2020-21forB.Des.(including Overseascandidates)andGDPDwillbedeclaredONLYontheofficialadmissions website(http://admissions.nid.edu)asmentionedinSection2ofthisdocument.Thecandidates’scoresandrankswillbeavailableforviewingonthewebsiteand candidateswillhavetologintothesitetoviewtheirfinalresults.Separateresult scorecards(digitalorhardcopy)willnotbesent/providedtothecandidates.

Minimum QualifyingCriteria
Candidatesfromthevariouscategorieswillbeconsideredeligibleforadmissiononlyif the score exceeds the minimum qualifying criteria(to be announced at a later date).

TheprocedureofallotmentofseatsfortheB.Des/GDPDprogrammewillbeconducted at Ahmedabad. Each candidate will be required to remain present in person with the requisitedocumentsaspertheschedule(whichwillbeannouncedatalaterdate).
Failingtoreportwiththerequisitedocumentsaspertheschedulewillleadtoforfeiting thecandidate’sseatandtheirseatwillbeallottedtothenexteligiblecandidateinthe order of merit in the respectivecategory.
9. FAQs RELATED TO NID DAT MAINS
Q.1 How important is the DAT Mains?
Ans. Based on the scores obtained in DAT Prelims (Stage 1), candidates will be shortlisted and called for the DAT Mains (Stage 2). The final merit list will be generated, based on the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate in each stage of the admissions process.
Q.2 If I don’t get admission this year, can I apply next year or later?
Ans. Yes, candidates are allowed to appear for NID’s entrance exam for an unlimited number of attempts provided the eligibility criteria are fulfilled.
Q.3 Can we choose an exam center?
Ans. Candidates may select a test center of their choice at the time of submitting their application online for DAT Prelims. However, NID reserves the right to add/remove any of these centers and allot a test center that may not be of the candidate’s choice.
Q.4How many students are shortlisted in-studio test for NID?
Ans. The students getting shortlisted in the NID studio test are three times the number of seats available in the course.
Q.5 What materials should I get for the NID studio test?
Ans. The student can carry the following material in the NID Studio test-
- Blue/black ball point pen
- Lead pencils (of varying grades)
- Dry colours (such as oil pastels/colour pencils/sketch pens, etc)
- 30 cm steel ruler
- Sharpener
- Eraser

- Scissors
Q.6 What percentage does the NID studio test carry?
Ans. NID conducts DAT Mains i.e. Studio test after the first stage which is in may which carries a weightage of 70% of the entrance exam.
